Beaupit, Sward Selected in Fourth and Fifth Rounds of 2022 NHL Draft

Montreal, Que. - Spokane Chiefs goaltender Mason Beaupit and defenseman Graham Sward were both selected on the second day of the 2022 NHL Draft, with Beaupit going to the San Jose Sharks in the 4th round (108th overall) and Sward going to the Nashville Predators in the 5th round (146th overall).

Beaupit is the sixth Spokane goalie to be selected in the NHL Draft and the first since Dustin Tokarski was picked by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008 (5th round, 122nd overall). The Surrey, B.C. native is also the highest Chiefs netminder to be picked since Barry Brust was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the 3rd round (73rd overall) in 2002.

Beaupit is the sixth Chief to be drafted by the San Jose Sharks, following Jake McGrew in 2017 (6th round, 159th overall), Adam Helewka in 2015 (4th round, 106th overall), Kerry Toporowski in 1991 (4th round, 67th overall), Ray Whitney in 1991 (2nd round, 23rd overall) and Pat Falloon in 1991 (1st round, 2nd overall).

The 6-foot-5 goalie finished the season 20-22-3-1, including 6-5-0-0 in his final 11 starts where he posted a 2.88 GAA and a .915 SV% in the team's playoff push.

Sward is the first-ever Spokane Chief to be drafted by the Nashville Predators.

The 6-foot-3 blueliner finished his third season as a Chief with a career-high 10 goals, 33 assists and 43 points in 57 games and earned the team's John "Hitman" Hern Defenseman of the Year and Chiefs Humanitarian of the Year awards.
