Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush hosted the Amarillo Gorillas for the first game of their doubleheader Tuesday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, where the Rush hosted "Faith Night". The Rush were hoping to turn things around after dropping both games to Wichita over the weekend and Rapid City was able to do so as they pummeled Amarillo, 6-0.

The first period got the game started the way that Rapid City had hoped. Kyle Sheen found the back of the net at 6:04 into the period. Sheen's rebound goal was assisted by Mitch Stephens and Luke Fritshaw. The Rush doubled the Gorillas in shots as they fired 16 shots at Amarillo goaltender, AJ Bucchino while Miguel Beaudry only saw 8 pucks throughout the initial frame.

The teams also dropped the gloves in the first as Rapid City's Ryan Hand and Amarillo's James Jernberg both received majors for fighting. The period ended with the Rush in the lead, 1-0.

The middle frame had some of the most exciting moments of the season this far for the fans at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center as it was a showcase for the Rush's offense. At 3:22 in the period Derek LeBlanc started the scoring spree for the Rush as he placed the puck past Bucchino after he was set up by Jon Pelle. Nearly two minutes later, Jamie VanderVeeken did the same as he found the back of the net at 5:15. VanderVeeken was assisted by Derek Legault and Chris Lipsett. Legault was able to tally a goal himself, his first for the Rush at the 8:02 mark. He was set up by Lipsett and Rich Hansen. Continuing the trend, Lipsett found the back of the net at 14:52 with a shorthanded breakaway goal. Lipsett was assisted by Blaine Jarvis and Mark DeSantis. Just as the seconds ticked off the clock, Mitch Stephens wanted one more put up on the board as he grabbed a goal at the :03 mark in the period on a play assisted by Lipsett and Fritshaw. Rapid City continued their dominance in the shot column, outshooting the Gorillas 12- 3 for the period. The period ended with a dominating lead for Rapid City of 6-0.

The last period saw the Rush maintaining their lead but not adding to it. The third period was the only one in which Amarillo outshot the Rush, 12-9. Both teams had many powerplay chances throughout the game, but neither team was able to convert on the man advantage. The game ended with Rapid City grabbing a much needed win, 6-0.

Miguel Beaudry made 23 saves to record his third shutout of the season. The three shutouts ties a career high for the goaltender who has reached the mark twice, once with New Mexico his rookie season, and once with the Austin Ice Bats. Beaudry's last shutout was on January 28th against the Wichita Thunder.

Final shots were 37-23, Rapid City with the edge. The Rush were held scoreless on the powerplay for the third straight game as they went 0-for-5 while blanking the Gorillas on six chances.

Up next for the Rush is the second game of the midweek doubleheader against Amarillo. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
