RiverKings Top CHL Coaches Poll Again

(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings' current nine-game winning streak has propelled the team back to the top of the latest Yellowbook-CHL Coaches Poll, released today. It's the second straight week that the RiverKings have been ranked number one in the poll. There will be one more poll released on March 25th after the regular season has been concluded.

Mississippi received eleven first-place votes in the balloting of the coaches in the Central Hockey League. The RiverKings outpointed second-place Texas by 13 points in the rankings, 144-131. Points are earned on a 10-9-8-7, etc. scale with ten points earned for a number one ranking, and so on. The Brahmas received three first place votes to move into second place from third in the previous poll.

Northern Conference leader Colorado received the other two first-place votes from the coaches and finished with 127 points to take the number three position in the poll, moving down one spot from second in the last bi-monthly rankings.

Bossier-Shreveport, which the RiverKings defeated on Tuesday night 4-1 in Louisiana, remained fourth in the polling with 103 votes and Oklahoma City moved up one spot to fifth to complete the top five.

The second quintet of teams in the current rankings include Odessa, Laredo, Rocky Mountain, Rio Grande Valley, and Arizona.

Mississippi will defend its nine-game winning streak and its five point lead in the Northeast Division standings Friday night in Tulsa against the Oilers, starting at 7:35 PM. A three-game weekend will continue Saturday with a return to Bossier-Shreveport, following by a Sunday afternoon contest against the Jackalopes in Odessa.

The RiverKings return home to play Bossier-Shreveport in a two-game series March 13th and 14th at the DeSoto CIvic Center in Southaven, beginning at 7:05 PM.
