Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast are proud to announce today the hiring of Peter Goulet as their newest Assistant Coach.
Goulet joins the Beast from the Nepean Raiders Junior A team of the Central Canadian Hockey League, where he served as head coach and general manager for the past five and a half seasons. Under Goulet's leadership, the Raiders were transformed following several seasons of mediocrity and the departure of previous coach Chris Bryne into an annual contender.
This transformation included a memorable 2011-2012 season, where the Raiders secured their first league title since 2004 en route to their third Art Bogart Cup as CCHL Champions. The success carried over into the following season as again Goulet his team all the way back to the CCHL Playoff Finals, where they fell in six games to the Cornwall Colts.
"Peter will be a great addition to our staff," said Beast General Manager Cary Kaplan. "He has been successful everywhere he has been. In addition to his track record behind the bench in Kingston and Nepean, he will help the Beast rapidly build and expand our hockey schools, coaches and clinics programs in Brampton, as he has done before in his career."
Prior to his time with the Raiders, Goulet served as an assistant coach with the Kingston Voyageurs of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, spending over three seasons with the team as a jack-of-all-trades responsible for team management, coaching and scouting.
In 2009, Goulet was behind the bench for one of the Voyageurs most memorable playoff runs in franchise history, as the Kingston squad won their first Buckland Trophy defeating the Oakville Blades in 5 games. Just over a week later, the Vees took down the Fort William North Stars to capture their first-ever Dudley Hewitt Cup as Central Canadian Junior A Champions.
"I'm very excited to be coming to Brampton," said Goulet in a phone interview on Monday. "It's a great opportunity and I'm looking forward to the challenge of helping this organization get to the next level on the ice. After winning championships in Kingston and Nepean I plan on bringing that same work ethic, knowledge and enthusiasm here to the Beast."
Goulet will be joining current assistant coach Phil Oreskovic behind the bench for the upcoming 2015-2016 ECHL season. Oreskovic officially transitioned into his role after formally announcing his retirement from the sport in March, and played a big role in coordinating the Beast defensive corps during the last several weeks of the season.
