Hershey Bears News Release
Steady goaltending paved the way for another BEARS victory in Glens Falls on Monday night. HERSHEY stands just one win away from eliminating the Albany River Rats after a 3-1 win in Glens Falls, New York.
HERSHEY controlled much of the tempo in the first period, scoring the lone goal and outshooting the Rats 10-3. With the game scoreless late in the period, Alexandre Giroux scored a power play goal at the 16:40 mark from Kyle Wilson and Chad Wiseman. The goal was Giroux's first of the series, and it gave the BEARS a 1-0 lead heading into first intermission. Neither team would score in the second, although HERSHEY led a great chance get away to build on its one goal advantage. Albany forward Mike Angelidis was whistled for a five minute high sticking major penalty, but the BEARS could not muster a shot on goal during the span. Albany picked up 12 shots in the second frame to HERSHEY'S four, but still trailed 1-0 heading into the final period.
Into the third period, the BEARS scored an early power play goal when Mike Green scored at 3:27. Just over four minutes later, Keith Aucoin scored his first goal of the series with an even strength marker at 7:30 from Matt Murley and Kyle Cumiskey. The Rats would never score again, and Dave Steckel scored his second goal of the playoffs into an empty net to seal HERSHEY'S third win of the series. Frederic Cassivi won his third playoff game in four decisions, and the BEARS stand just one victory away from advancing to the East Division Finals.
