
Bears Win Thriller Sunday, Four of Next Five on the Road

Last Week: Following a 4-1 loss to Philadelphia Wednesday night at GIANT Center, the BEARS rebounded with a 2-2 tie on the road against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport. Eric Perrin scored the game-tying goal at the 14:21 mark of the third period to earn a point against the Sound Tigers. Sunday night, the BEARS had to rally again after giving up the first goal of the game and won a 3-2 overtime decision against Syracuse. D.J. Smith notched the game winner at the 4:05 mark of sudden death, while Tom Lawson won his sixth game in eight decisions in goal. The BEARS begin the week in a first place tie with Bridgeport in the AHL's East Division.
Notables: Since November 26th, the BEARS have killed off 31 of 34 opponents power plays for a 91.2 percent clip. Gavin Morgan has played in three games for the Dallas Stars since being recalled on Tuesday from HERSHEY. Shane Willis had two assists Saturday night for Tampa Bay in a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Sheldon Keefe carries a five-game point streak into Wednesday night's game at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Keefe also has 11 points in his last eight games after a three-point effort Sunday night against Syracuse. Steve Brule has the longest point streak by a BEARS player this season at six straight games. Brule accomplished the feat from November 9th to November 22nd. D.J Smith scored his first game-winning goal of the season Sunday night against Syracuse after scoring the game-tying goal against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last Sunday night at GIANT Center. The BEARS have earned at least a point in 11 of their last 14 games. Four of the next five games are on the road for HERSHEY with the lone home game coming Saturday night against Worcester. The BEARS play at Cleveland next Friday to finish the stretch. HERSHEY has held at least a share of first place for 24 straight days and counting dating back to November 13th. The BEARS and Sound Tigers both have 34 points, the top mark also in the Eastern Conference.
Colorado Update: The Avalanche ripped Columbus on Saturday night at Pepsi Center in Denver 5-1. Colorado begins the week in a first place tie with the Vancouver Canucks in the Northwest Division standings with 34 points. The Avs also have a game in hand on Vancouver as they play three games this week. Colorado is home tonight against the Washington Capitals before traveling to Vancouver for a showdown with the Canucks Thursday night. The Avalanche finish the week on the road Saturday night with a game at Calgary against the Flames. Phil Sauve earned his second win of the season Saturday night in Colorado's 5-1 win over Columbus. Travis Brigley has two goals and five points in 17 games this season for the Avalanche since being recalled from HERSHEY.
Tampa Bay Update: The Lightning won two games in two days over the weekend, downing the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 Saturday night and defeating the New York Rangers 3-2 Sunday evening at Madison Square Garden. The Bolts are one point out of first place with five games in hand on Bob Hartley's Atlanta Thrashers as the week begins. Tampa plays on the road tomorrow night against the New York Islanders before traveling to face the Ottawa Senators Thursday night at the Corel Centre in Ottawa. The Lightning return home Saturday night to the St. Pete Times Forum to face the Montreal Canadiens. Shane Willis has three assists in four games since being recalled from HERSHEY to Tampa Bay, averaging nearly 17 minutes of ice time per game. Upcoming promotions: BIG 92.7 FM and WGAL sponsor this year's Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday, December 13 when the BEARS host the Worcester Icecats at 7:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to the game and throw them onto the ice when HERSHEY scores it's first goal of the game. All bears to be donated to local charities for the holidays. The BEARS, BIG 92.7 FM, ABC 27 and Dodge team up to give away a brand new Dodge Dakota 4 x 4 pickup truck on Sunday, December 21 at 5:00 p.m. All fans in attendance 18 and older have one chance to win the truck at second intermission.
