December 11, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack were back at the Bayshore tonight for a rare Tuesday evening match up with the Guelph Storm. Not only was it a Sean Durzi Bobblehead night, Durzi's long-awaited return from injury, but also a division match up and the last home game before the holidays. The Bears were eager to continue their win-streak.
Guelph opened scoring just over 6 minutes into the first as recently signed Arizona Coyote prospect Nate Schnarr whips one past rookie netminder Andrew MacLean to get on the board.
Hancock took a penalty just under 10 minutes in, sending Guelph to their first powerplay of the game. Liam Hawel took the opportunity and found the back of the net to make the Storm lead 2-0.
The Bears saw their first powerplay of the game when Owen Lalonde found his way to the sin bin for hooking. The powerplay only lasted just under a minute and a half before Attack's Daylon Groulx also headed to the box. The game headed to 4 on 4 hockey.
Schnarr received a penalty, sending the Attack to a powerplay for the last 1:23 of the game, but the Bears couldn't find the back of the net.
Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal after one sat at 15-10, in favour of the Storm.
Period number two opened up with the Attack on a 37 second powerplay, remaining time in Nate Schnarr's penalty. The Bears couldn't capitalize on the remaining seconds in the powerplay and the game remained 2-0.
Ryan Merkley got caught roughing and was sent to the box, giving the Attack another chance on the one-man advantage, but they fail to capitalize.
With just over two minutes left in the second period, Kaleb Pearson makes a shot on net but it was Kevin Hancock with the rebound for the Attack's first goal of the game. Also assisting the play was defenceman Carter Robertson.
After two, Mark McDade Chestnut Park shots on goal were 25-24, in favour of the Attack.
The third period opens with Pearson heading to the box for slashing, followed closely behind by Ryan Merkley, sending the game to 4 on 4 hockey. Sean Durzi, on his long-awaited return from injury, shows us he's back in style with a goal to tie up the game and bring some momentum back in the game.
The rookies united tonight, and Kaleb Pearson found his 6th goal of the season, assisted by fellow rookie Manuel Alberg to give the Bears the 3-2 lead with just over 8 minutes left in the third.
Brady Lyle headed to the box with just over 5 minutes left on the clock for a controversial call for cross checking, according to the crowd at the Bayshore.
Guelph pulled their goalie, Anthony Popovich, with just under two minutes to go in the game. Durzi fired one to the net but a Guelph defenseman gloves it before it gets to the net.
Buzzer went, Attack win 3-2!
First star honours went to Owen Sound's Sean Durzi for his goal tonight, while Guelph Storm's Nate Schnarr earned the second star for his one goal and two assists. The third star went to Kaleb Pearson for his one goal and one assist on the night.
Carter Robertson won the Hatten Home Hardware Hardest Working Player of the Game, voted by the fans.
Mark McDade shots on goal after three were 46-39, in favour of Guelph.
We are back in action Friday night, December 14, for a 7:00pm puck drop vs the Kingston Frontenacs on the road. The Bears won't be back at the Bayshore until after the holidays, on December 29th when we face the Kitchener Rangers.
