Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - Garrett Mitchell scored in the second period to begin a string of four unanswered goals that the Hershey Bears would post to take a 4-2 victory over the St. John's IceCaps on Saturday night at GIANT Center.
The IceCaps came out with a hard push after the opening faceoff and would grab the game's first goal just 3:51 into the game. A harmless wrist shot from the right point by Darren Dietz found its way through traffic and past Justin Peters for a 1-0 IceCaps lead.
Peters was tremendous for the remainder of the period, turning aside 13 other shots faced.
Charles Hudon made it 2-0 just 1:09 into the second, ripping a giveaway past Peters from the right hash marks.
Not long afterward, the Bears would find some life when Mitchell jumped off the bench to keep a Dietz clearing bid onside. He took the puck right to the net and lifted a shot over the glove of IceCaps goaltender Zach Fucale at 3:50.
More saves by Peters would keep the game close enough for the Bears to claw back. Liam O'Brien netted the equalizer, one-timing a feed from Dustin Gazley into the upper-right corner at 4:14 of the third period.
The go-ahead goal by the Bears involved a big milestone for three-time champion Chris Bourque. The winger collected a pass from Christian Djoos, carried down the right wing and fed a perfect back-door pass to Paul Carey. Carey one-timed it behind Fucale at 8:58 for his second goal of the year. Bourque's assist was the 400th point of his Hershey career.
Gazley capped off the night by hitting the empty net at 19:35.
Peters made 26 saves on 28 shots for his second consecutive win and improved to 2-1-1. Fucale suffered his first loss of the year with 26 saves on 29 shots and fell to 4-1-0. Hershey was 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Bears are home again tomorrow, November 1 to take on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. All fans in attendance will receive a complimentary one-day pass to HERSHEYPARK (valid through July 31, 2016). Individual tickets for this and all Bears home games may be purchased at the GIANT Center box office, by calling (717) 508-BEAR or online at TicketMaster.com.
