
Beach Bums Swept in Double Header

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(30-31) dropped both ends of a double header tonight against the Lake Erie Crushers(35-27) by a scores of 8-0 and 4-3.
In game one, Lake Erie got on the board first when Dane Hutcheon scored on a double play for a 1-0 lead. From there, they didn't look back as the Crushers sent nine men to the plate in the second. Dalton Wheat scored on a fielder's choice, Dane Hutcheon drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, Sean Hurley hit a two-run double, and Cody Lenahan hit an RBI double, for a six run lead. Two more runs were added in the third when Mason Brown scored on an error and Hutcheon hit an RBI double.
Mason Klotz gets the complete game shutout victory, allowing just two hits and a walk in seven innings of work. He improves to 3-3. Luke DeVenney suffers the loss as he gives up eight runs on seven hits and four walks in six innings, falling to 0-1.
In game two, it was the Beach Bums who struck first. Orlando Rivera and Isaac Benard walked to start off the game, then Will Kengor drove them both home with a double to left-center field for a 2-0 advantage. In the fourth, Lake Erie snatched the lead back on a three run homer by Joel McKeithan. Cody Lenahan added a solo shot double the lead to 4-2.
Connor Oliver led off the sixth with a single into right field then moved to third when Noah McGowan hit an infield single and the pitcher threw the ball in to centerfield. Two batters later, pinch-hitter Ryan Kemp dropped a single into right field, scoring Oliver to pull the Beach Bums within one but that is as close as they would come.
Sean Renzi earned the win for Lake Erie, going five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out 12. He improves to 7-4. John Havird is dealt the loss after five innings of work to drop to 3-6. He gave up three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six. Logan Lombana earned his fourth save with a perfect seventh inning.
On Thursday night, the Beach Bums and Lake Erie Crushers conclude this week's three-game series. Alex Romero gets the start for Lake Erie and Reinaldo Lopez goes for the Beach Bums.
