Beach Bums Shut out by Windy City

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - After Traverse City Beach Bums'(31-42) starting pitchers hurled complete games in the last two games, the Windy City ThunderBolts and Jake Fisher gave them a taste of their own medicine in tonight's 4-0 game.

Even though the game was scoreless in the first three innings, the Beach Bums had their opportunities, putting men in scoring position in each inning and stranding five. Windy City's offense broke through in the fourth inning when they sent nine men to the plate. Coco Johnson led off the inning with a double to right field. Tim Zier then drove him in with an RBI single. Zier followed by stealing second then Corey Bass walked and Charley Thurber singled to left to load the bases. Ranson Lalonde then reached on a fielders' choice, scoring Zier. With Kyle Wood at the plate, Bass came in to score on a wild pitch. After Wood reached on an error, Johnny Eierman hit a hard grounder to third. Vargas threw the ball home but it was late and Lalonde scored to make it 4-0.

Jake Fisher picked up his league-leading ninth win of the season against four losses. He allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out nine on his way to the complete game shutout. Michael Shreves is dealt the loss after four innings of work. He allowed all four runs, three of them earned, on four hits and a walk. He falls to 2-7. The bullpen for the Bums, in an effort to keep them in the game, combined to complete the game without allowing another run, on five hits, no walks, and they struck out five.

Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and Windy City Thunderbolts play the rubber game of this three-game series. Tyler Murph gets the call for Windy City while Augie Gallardo starts for the Beach Bums in his professional debut . First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.
