* JOLIET, IL**- * Spencer Medick allowed two runs in the fourth inning, but the Slammers' offense exploded and went on to score 10 straight runs to seal a 10-2 win over the Schaumburg Boomers August 9.

The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy put up 15 hits on the Boomers to lead them to their win Tuesday night.

Leading the way offensively for the Slammers was Jake Gronsky. Gronsky went 1-4 at the plate but drove in three runs. Gronsky hit a big two-run home run in the sixth inning.

After winning seven-games in a row, the Slammers were swept by the Normal CornBelters, but were able to fight back after the losses to take two of three from the Southern Illinois Miners.

"It was good to start this week off with a win," Carter Bell said. "The playoff hunt starts right about now. We know we're in good position, we're not trying to let up anything."

Bell also found some struggles at the plate in the last home stand, which was very rare for the Slammers' second baseman. Bell was hitless in four straight games but started to pick it up against the Miners and Tuesday, going 3-5 with an RBI.

"You know you're not going to it 1.000 out there," Bell said. "You've just got to roll with the punches."

The Slammers got another strong pitching performance from Spencer Medick. He pitched seven innings and gave up just two runs and allowed just five hits.

The Slammers are only playing one home game in the series with the Boomers as they will travel to Schaumburg to play the final two games of the series before returning home this weekend.

Joliet earned its 40th win of the season and remain in first place in the East Division with a five-game lead over the Washington Wild Things.
