Bums Bat Break out While Dylan Dominates

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release


TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(31-41) sent ten men to the plate in the eighth, scoring six runs, to put the Windy City ThunderBolts(34-39) away in tonight's series opener. The final score was 10-1.

After a scoreless first, Steven Patterson, with one out, hit a single to right but it got away from Cody Keefer for an error and Patterson ended up on third. With Giancarlo Brugnoni at the plate, Patterson came into score on a passed ball that reached the back stop, giving the Bums the lead. Although Windy City had a man on base in each of the first five innings, they could not get on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the fifth, Marco Derkes reached on a fielders' choice and Ryan Bottger walked. Jose Vargas then stepped up and hit a blast over the Wuerfel Park scoreboard in left for a three run homer. It was Vargas' eleventh long-ball of the season and made it a 4-0 game.

Windy City got on the board in the top of the eighth when Taylor Smart tripled, then scored on a Coco Johnson RBI sacrifice fly. The Beach Bums responded by putting up a huge turn at bat in the bottom of the frame. Patterson led off with a double to left and two batters later Kendall Patrick drove him home with an RBI single. Jeff DeBlieux and Marco Derkes each followed with walks, then Ryan Bottger squeezed a two run single to left. Will Kengor drove in Bottger with an RBI double then came in to score himself when Christian Santisteban hit a two run single to round out the inning.

For the second straight game, the Beach Bums' starter gets a complete game. Tonight, it was Dylan Stoops, who allowed one run and seven hits, no walks, and he struck out ten. He improved to 8-3 on the season. Clay Chapman is stuck with the loss, going six innings, allowing three unearned runs on six hits and three walks and struck out seven. He falls to 7-6.

Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and Windy City Thunderbolts play game two of this three game series. Jake Fisher takes the hill for Windy City and Michael Shreves goes for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm, on 101.9- The Bay.
