Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
AUGET, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums were rained out of their scheduled game with the Gateway Grizzlies on Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark.
The contest was slated to be the opener of a three-game series. Gateway sits in third place in the Frontier League West Division. The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow night beginning at 6:05 pm EST. Both games will be seven innings in length.
Heavy rain fell on the St. Louis area for most of the day but broke about an hour before the scheduled first pitch, creating the possibility of a game. With the tarp off of the field rain began falling again just before the scheduled first pitch to force the cancellation.
The contest was the second rain out of the year for the Beach Bums. Traverse City was rained out at Kalamazoo on July 2. The Beach Bums split a doubleheader with the Kings the next night losing 12-3 but winning the nightcap in nine innings 4-2. Traverse City has played three doubleheaders in franchise history and is 4-2 all-time.
The Beach Bums (34-28) will send RHP Brett Bostelman (4-3, 4.10) to the mound in the opener with RHP Steve Roberts (0-0, 2.60) getting the ball in the nightcap. Gateway counters with RHP Brandon Williams (6-3, 3.22) in the opener while LHP Devin Collis, signed today, gets the ball in the finale.
