Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

O'FALLON, MO - Traverse City Beach Bums(2-3) led 4-0 after the top of the seventh but couldn't hang on as they lose tonight to the River City Rascals(2-2), by a final score of 5-4 in 11 innings.

Donald Glover Jr. led the game off with a single to right field then, two batters later, scored on Will Kengor's RBI double down the right field line. After a walk to Luke Lowery in which Kengor moved to third on a wild pitch, Alexis Rivera drove Kengor in with a groundout to double the Beach Bums' advantage. From there, the game went scoreless until the eighth inning.

Alexis Rivera led off the frame with an infield hit to the left side of the infield then Kenny People-Walls rocketed a two-run homer to left for his second of the season, extending the lead to 4-0. The bottom of the inning started with a fly ball to left but it was lost in the lights and Connor Oliver ended up with a triple. JD Hearn promptly drove him in with an RBI single to get the Rascals on the board. Later, Stephen Kerr hit an RBI single to bring in Hearn, and cut their deficit to two.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Clint Freeman blasted a solo homer over the big wall in right, pulling the Rascals within one. Gerrion Grim followed with a single, moved to third on an Oliver single, then scored on a controversial call at the plate after a wild pitch, forcing extra innings. In the Bums' half of the 10th, they had runners at first and second but couldn't convert. In the bottom of the inning, the Rascals were thrown out trying to score by both Isaac Benard and Alexis Rivera to send the game to the 11th.

With the international tie-breaker rule in effect, Steve Lohr started the inning at second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Max Dutto. After two straight strikeouts, the game would go to the bottom of the inning, still even at four. Mike Jurgella started the inning at second, then with one out, he stole third. Grim and Oliver were intentionally walked to load the bases and with a 3-1 count, Hearn was hit by a pitch to force in the winner.

Reinaldo Lopez got the start for the Beach Bums but had to settle for a no-decision after going seven and a third innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out three. At one point, he retired 16 Rascals in a row. Cody Mincey earned the win for River City, striking out two in the 11th. Kris Goodman suffered the loss to fall to 0-1.
