Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(18-23) came back from deficits twice against the Lake Erie Crushers(25-17), but could not seal a win as they fell by a final score of 8-7 in 11 innings.
Lake Erie took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI bloop single by Dustin Williams and a wild pitch that scored Doug Trimble from third. Arby Fields led off the bottom of the frame with a walk. He then stole second then moved to third on the catcher's throwing error. Will Kengor then lifted a fly ball down the left field line that dropped for a double, scoring Fields to make it a 2-1 game.
With one out in the fourth, Alec Olund extended his hitting streak to five games with an infield single, but was thrown out at second trying to steal. Noah McGowan followed with walk then Max Dutto blasted a two-run homer over the right field wall for a 3-2 Beach Bums lead. Lake Erie responded in the top of the fifth, tying the game on a Kewby Meyer RBI single to right.
For the second time in the game, Isaac Benard led off an inning with a walk, this time in the bottom of the fifth. Kengor then slammed his seventh home run, deep over the right field wall, giving Traverse City a 5-3 advantage. The lead lasted until the ninth inning, when Meyer hit an RBI double and Bryan De La Rosa hit an RBI single to tie the game at five.
In the tenth, Lake Erie took a two-run lead when Meyer scored two with another double. With one out in the bottom of the frame, Alec Olund and Noah McGowan each walked. Two batters later, with two outs, Arby Fields walked to load the bases. Isaac Benard stepped to the plate and rolled a single into left, scoring Olund and pinch-runner Orlando Rivera, once again knotting the game at seven. The comeback magic ran out in the 11th when Dustin Williams tripled in a run, and the Beach Bums couldn't respond in the bottom of the inning.
Max Biedrzycki earned the win in relief for the second time in two days, tonight going one and a third innings, allowing a walk a fanning 1-0. He improves to 5-0. Tyler Barss is dealt the hard-luck loss, allowing the unearned international tie-breaker runner to score on a triple as he falls to 0-1.
