
Beach Bums Drop Extra-Inning Affair in Washington

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
WASHINGTON, PA - Tonight's game between the Traverse City Beach Bums(9-12) and the Washington Wild Things(13-9) went back and forth, featured a 42 minute rain delay, and went into the 11th inning before the Bums fell 10-9.
Washington was able to get on the scoreboard in the first with a sacrifice fly by Kyle Pollock but, in the second, Luke Lowery singled, stole second, and scored on an Alexis Rivera single to tie the game. The Wild Things retook the lead thanks to an RBI fielder's choice by Roman Collins, and an RBI double by Reydel Medina, to make it a 3-1 game.
With one out in the top of the fourth, Lowery walked, Isaac Benard singled, and Kendall Patrick walked to load the bases. Alexis Rivera notched his second RBI of the night by reaching on a fielder's choice to score Lowery. After Josh Hauser walked to reload the bases, Donald Glover Jr. Induced a base on balls to tie the game. Arby Fields followed with an RBI single hit, then Kenny Peoples-Walls walked, giving the Beach Bums a 5-3 lead.
The Wild Things pulled within one when Carter McEachern singled in a run but Kendall Patrick responded in the top of the fifth, blasting a solo homer over the left field wall for his second of the season. In the bottom of the frame, Kyle Pollock scored on a wild pitch and Brett Marr plated two with a single, giving Washington a one run lead. They added to their advantage in the seventh on a James Harris sacrifice fly, to make it an 8-6 game.
In top of the eighth, the Beach Bums put together an impressive two out rally. Max Dutto and Donald Glover Jr. Each walked then Arby Fields, doubled in a run. After a pitching change, Peoples-Walls hit a two-run single to give Traverse City the lead. With Washington down their last strike in the ninth, James Harris hit an RBI triple to tie the game and sent it to extra innings. Each team threatened in the tenth and eleventh but Washington completed the win when Marr singled down the right field line to drive in Medina.
Each team used seven pitchers as neither starter factored in the decision. Jamal Wilson earned the win for Washington, bending but not breaking in two innings of work. He improves to 1-0. Karl Blum made his pro debut for the Beach Bums, in a tough spot, giving up the winning unearned run while fanning one, for the loss.
On Wednesday, the Beach Bums and Washington Wild Things will once again get together for game two of this week's three game series. Washington goes with Frank Trimarco to start while the Beach Bums counter with John Havird.
