Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- The Traverse City Beach Bums were rained out for the first time ever at Wuerfel Park on Wednesday night as their scheduled contest with the Southern Illinois Miners was postponed.

The two teams will meet in a doubleheader on Thursday night, with a pair of seven-inning contests slated to begin at 6:00pm.

Traverse City has played a total of four doubleheaders in franchise history, none of those have been at home. The Beach Bums played two doubleheaders in 2008, finishing 1-3 in doubleheader contests. Rain in Kalamazoo on July 2 forced a doubleheader on July 3, and the Beach Bums fell 12-3 in the first game before winning the nightcap in extra innings 4-3. The Beach Bums also appeared in a doubleheader at Gateway on July 31, losing 2-1 in extras and falling 2-0 in the finale.

Overall, the Beach Bums own a record of 4-4 in doubleheaders, sweeping Windy City in a twin-bill on August 7, 2007, and splitting at Kalamazoo on August 29, 2006. Traverse City will play another doubleheader this season, as the Beach Bums are already scheduled for a twi-night doubleheader next Sunday at Evansville.

Southern Illinois topped the Beach Bums last night in the home opener at Wuerfel Park by a 5-4 score. The Beach Bums will place RHP David Nathanson (0-1, 13.50) on the mound for the first contest and RHP Brett Bostelman (1-0, 0.00) on the mound in game two. Southern Illinois plans to send LHP Tim Dennehy to the hill for his first start of the season in the first contest and RHP Ryan Bird (1-0, 0.00), who was the 2008 Frontier League Pitcher of the Year, for the second.
