Freedom Take Second Straight From Rascals
May 27, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release
O'FALLON, MO - The Florence Freedom continued their domination of the Rascals, taking a 7-1 decision in seven innings. The game was called because of rain in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Rascals (4-2) took an early 1-0 lead on a Chris Colton home run over the left field fence. It would be the last Rascals' lead of the night.
Florence (4-2) again struck it big in the fifth inning, plating six runs after scoring seven last night in the same frame. Erold Andrus walked and scored on an RBI double by Brad Hough to tie the game at one. Rascal starter, Chris Ingoglia, walked Tim Grogan and was pulled for Eric Cordell, who allowed two more singles and a three run homer to Ryan Basham for a 6-1 lead.
Ingoglia (1-1) didn't make it through five, going 4.1 allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Freedom starter, Andy Clark, lasted only 3.1 innings, failing to earn the win. The right-hander allowed eight hits and the one run.
The Freedom scored their final run of the night on a solo blast from former Rascal, Brad Hough. The former River City star finished the game 2-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
Demetrius Banks (1-0) was outstanding in relief of Clark to earn his first win of the season. The southpaw threw the final 3.2 innings for Florence, allowing one hit while striking out four.
Colton and Robinson extended their hitting streaks in the loss to six games. Colton was 2-4 with a home run and Robinson finished 2-4 with a pair of singles.
The Rascals will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
