January 5, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Worcester Sharks News Release

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr along with Abigail Williams, the principle of the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates, announced that the "Be a Leader" program will visit the Summit Academy in Worcester on Wednesday, January 6, from 1:30p.m. to 2:30p.m.

Created at the start of the 2007-08 season by the Worcester Sharks and the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates, the "Be a Leader" program is designed to provide students in grades 4-6 with leadership tips to enrich their lives as well as others around them. Sharks players, in addition to Finz, the Sharks' mascot, will be present at the school assemblies along with the principle of the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates, Abby Williams.

Worcester Sharks rookie and former first round NHL draft choice, Nick Petrecki, will take the lead at the assembly, addressing the students and sharing his insights on being a professional hockey player and how to make healthy lifestyle choices.

"The kids have a lot of fun during the assembly," said Director of Community Relations Michael Myers. "It's not every day that a professional athlete and a mascot visit a child's school. It's a fun way to help guide students to make the right decision in every day life."

After the assembly, the Sharks Street Brigade will be available for students to enjoy. The Sharks Street Brigade is an interactive, mobile street hockey experience geared toward elementary school-aged children in order to generate an interest in hockey and make the sport more accessible to local youth. The Sharks Street Brigade staff will provide basic instruction and conduct drills and short scrimmages, or simply provide hours of fun for anyone involved. The scrimmages will be refereed by everyone's favorite mascot, FINZ!

Each participant in the program receives one ticket to an upcoming 2009-10 regular season Sharks home game and a "Be a Leader" promotional item compliments of the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates.

"My entire staff has really enjoyed being part of this great program," said Abby Williams, principal of the Law Firm of Abigail Williams and Associates. "I am excited about the opportunity to share my experiences with children and look forward for the "Be a Leader" program to continue its efforts throughout central Massachusetts."

Summit Academy School is a non-profit school which currently has an application pending to operate as a Massachusetts 766 Approved Private school for children with Asperger's Syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and related Non-Verbal Learning Disabilities. Their professional staff offers a unique instructional program which is designed to enhance learning for these children and unlock their full potential. Summit's approach addresses the students' physical, emotional, adaptive, structural, and social effectiveness needs.
