Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that Ducks Unlimited Inc., the leader in Wetlands Conservation, will present the 2010 AHL All-Star Skills Competition being held Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
"Ducks Unlimited Inc., the Leader in Wetlands Conservation, is excited to participate in the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic festivities. DU and the AHL were both born within months of one another and have seen remarkable talent come from a common source: the Canadian Prairies. While DU conserves, restores, and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl, the AHL makes use of frozen water for one of the most exciting sports in existence today," said James Konkel, Trustee Emeritus, Ducks Unlimited.
The 2010 Ducks Unlimited AHL All-Star Skills Competition will highlight the top players in the American Hockey League, such as Nathan Gerbe, Tyler Ennis and Mike Weber from the Portland Pirates, in exciting individual competitions to determine the fastest skater and hardest shot and team challenges such as the breakaway relay and pass and score.
"We are very proud and honored to partner with Ducks Unlimited Inc. and we welcome their prestigious and world class brand as part of our team for the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic," Pirates Managing/CEO Brian Petrovek said. "Their support of this event ensures yet another successful presentation of the AHL All-Star Classic here in Portland and we greatly appreciate their leadership and generosity."
