BC Lions Training Camp Report - Day 4

(Vancouver) Rain throughout the night and into Wednesday morning proved to be a formidable opponent as the Lions reduced their fourth day of training camp to one practice. The club was also forced to use just a single field as they moved to the artificial surface of a local high school.

With solid footing however, skill position players excelled and it was no more evident than with defensive backs LaVar Glover and Dante Marsh who were breaking on balls in mid-season form. Linebackers Javier Glatt and Otis ‘body-snatcher' Floyd continue to enjoy great camps with Glatt picking off a pass late in practice.

Stefan Logan is making an early case for sticking around with some fancy footwork through three days. The diminutive RB was held in place with a single hand to the helmet however by veteran DL Tyrone Williams drawing a few laughs from the defence. Staying with the running game, offensive coordinator Dan Dorazio had a round of high-fives for his troops along the line and FB Lyle Green after one particularly punishing run play.

From the ‘careful what you wish for files' the absence of second practice session resulted in extended meetings for all players as coaches make the most of off-field time. Head coach Wally Buono's light start to camp is paying dividends as the infirmary remains quiet despite the slippery conditions over the past few days.

Watching: Justin Shaw (LB - hamstring), slotback Ben Wilson (knee) and OL Andrew Jones (knee).

Back in Black: DB Ahmaad Smith was back on the field today after a quick trip home on a personal matter.

Food Fare: On the lunch menu Wednesday: soup and sandwiches as well as a West Coast sampling of California rolls. For dinner: Barbeque ribs and turkey with all the trimmings..

Quotable: "I better clean up my language my kids might see this..." - Leos kicker Paul McCallum on the prospect of being mic'ed up by Sportsnet Wednesday morning.

He aint Heavy: Former Lions Jamie Taras and Giulio Caravatta ran into each other in the cafeteria (where else?) - an attempted hug was aborted as it appears that either their stomachs grew or their arms shortened since retirement. They settled for a mutual pat on the shoulder instead.

Next Up: Thursday, June 4 - two sessions - 8:30 am - 11:00 am and 3:30 pm - 4:40 pm on the turf at WJ Mouat.

The Lions travel to Regina to take on the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders in preseason action on Friday, June 13th and will host the Calgary Stampeders at BC Place on Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 pm.
