ERIE, Penn. - The Baysox offense put up nine runs over two innings to beat the Erie SeaWolves 9-7 Monday night. Bowie reliever Fredy Deza came away the win, his first with the Baysox since August 31, 2007. Five Baysox players had at least two hits apiece and four different Baysox drove in two runs each. With the win, the Baysox are now 8-9, with five wins against Erie.

Erie jumped out in front early with four runs in the second inning before recording an out against Baysox righty Sean Gleason. Brennan Boesch led off with a single, Alex Avila walked and both runners scored on a double by Jeff Frazier. Gleason hit Joe Tucker with a pitch to put runners back on first and second with nobody out. Shawn Roof singled to right and Ambiorix Concepcion committed an error, allowing Frazier and Tucker to score. Now down 4-0, Gleason got three straight groundouts to get out of the inning. Jeff Frazier would add an RBI single in the third to put the SeaWolves up by five.

Gleason lasted just three innings, allowing five runs, four earned, off six hits and a walk. Deza came on in relief to start the fourth inning and allowed the first three runners to reach base. After Cale Iorg's RBI single to right, the SeaWolves were up 6-0. Deza would go three innings in the game to earn the victory, allowing a two runs on four hits and a walk.

The Baysox bats came alive in the top of the fifth inning. Down by six, catcher Guillermo Rodriguez led off with a walk. Miguel Abreu, making his first start of the season in the outfield, followed with a single to right and Robert Valido singled to load the bases. Leadoff hitter Melvin Dorta drove in Rodriguez and Abreu with a double to left and third baseman Jonathan Tucker brought in Valido and Dorta with a single to center. Tucker stole second base and moved to third on a flyout by second baseman Paco Figueroa. Tucker scored the fifth run of the inning when Brandon Snyder mashed a double down the third base line for his team-leading 12th RBI. All five runs were charged to Erie starter Jonah Nickerson.

After Erie leadoff hitter Deik Scram hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to put Erie up 7-5, the Baysox would jump out in front in the seventh. Snyder drew a one-out walk off reliever Zach Simons and moved to third on a double by Concepcion. Erie brought Josh Kite in to pitch and Joe Nowicki drove in both runners with a double to left. With the score tied at seven apiece, Abreu hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field. Abreu went 3-4 on the night with a home run, two runs and two RBI. Dorta, Snyder, Concepcion and Nowicki each had a pair of hits while Dorta, Tucker and Nowicki each had two RBI.

Ryan Rodriguez, Josh Perrault and Wilfrido Perez combined to shut the SeaWolves out over the final three innings. Rodriguez pitched 0.1 of an inning to earn his first hold and Perrault earned his fourth with 1.1 scoreless innings. Perez came into the game with runners on the corners and two outs in the eight and struck out Brennan Boesch swinging to end the threat. Perez struck out the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to nail down the victory and record his fourth save. In eight appearances, Perez has held opponents scoreless over 8.2 innings with 10 strikeouts.

Paco Figueroa was held hitless for just the second time this season while Snyder extended his hitting streak to six games. Dorta and Abreu are both on four-game hitting streaks.

The Baysox will look to continue their mastery of the SeaWolves Tuesday night when they send left-handed starter Troy Patton (2-0, 0.55 ERA) up against Erie lefty Jon Kibler (0-1, 8.49 ERA). Patton has not pitched against the SeaWolves and Kibler is 0-1 in two starts against Bowie.
