Erie BayHawks News Release

The Erie BayHawks led by as many as 21 points and the Rio Grande Valley lost for the first time with a 101-87 defeat at Dodge Arena Wednesday night. The Vipers were outscored 35-12 in the third quarter and 54-38 in the second half as they lost for the first time under new Head Coach Clay Moser. The BayHawks have now won two straight after losing their first game of the season to Ft. Wayne.

The Vipers started the game strong outscoring Erie 26-17 in the first quarter. However a furious second half rally including a 15-0 run to close out third quarter kept the Vipers from their second straight 3-0 start in franchise history. The BayHawks now have back-to-back double- digit wins over teams in the Southwest Division with Wednesday's win over RGV. Erie defeated Austin on Monday 95-85.

The BayHawks had five players in double-figures and were led by Ivan Harris' game high 22 points. Former Kentucky Wildcat forward Erik Daniels was also impressive for Erie as he tallied 19 points, dished out five assists and hauled in five rebounds in the BayHawks victory.

The Vipers had a breakout game from power forward Kendall Dartez as he tallied his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Alton Ford started strong but faced a fierce double-team from Erie in the second half. Ford scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half, and also hauled in six rebounds in the loss for RGV. Smush Parker scored 17 and dished out six assists while Quin Humphrey rounded out the double-digit Viper scorers with 10.
