Mobile BayBears News Release

KODAK, Tenn. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, were defeated by the Tennessee Smokies 4-2 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader at Smokies Stadium. The second game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Friday, beginning at 4:30 p.m. CDT.

Jose Rodriguez (4-5) faced the minimum 12 batters and gave up just one hit through the first four innings. However, the Smokies (27-24) tagged him for four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth. Yasiel Balaguert tied the game 1-1 with a solo homer. Later in the frame, Trey Martin hit a two-run double and scored on a Charcer Burks single.

Luis Rengifo went 1-for-3 with an RBI groundout in the third inning. He doubled and scored a run in the sixth to cut Tennessee's lead to 4-2, but the BayBears (27-24) could not get any closer.

Duncan Robinson (2-1) recorded a quality start, giving up two runs on five hits in six innings pitched. Dakota Mekkes retired the side in order in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts to earn his seventh save.
