Erie Otters News Release

A deflection by Barclay Goodrow with 1:23 left in regulation denied the Erie Otters (16-16-1-1) a point as the Brampton Battalion escaped Tullio Arena with a 2-1 win Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Battalion scored just 23 seconds into the second period after Stephon Thorne fired a shot from the right circle that slipped under a right pad of Ramis Sadikov to give Brampton the advantage.

Exactly one minute later, the Otters tied the game after crashing the net. After continued blocked shots by the Battalion defense, Greg McKegg burst through with a shot between the legs of Matej Machovsky that was tipped into the net by Mac McDonnell for his fifth of the season at 1:23. The Battalion took control of most of the period with a 15-3 shot advantage, but Sadikov was strong in making 14 saves in the period.

The Otters improved their play in the third period, but Machovsky ensured that there would be no more pucks slipping by him as he made 12 stops in the third period to hold the Otters off the scoreboard.

The Battalion pressure eventually did the Otters in, as they capitalized on a defensive-zone turnover and created the game-winner. Sam Carrick skated to the left circle and fired a shot that tipped off the stick of Goodrow and through Sadikov to hand the Otters their first regulation defeat on home ice since Nov. 12.

Sadikov made 33 saves in the loss, as the Otters were outshot by the Battalion, 35-27. Both teams were shut out on the man advantage, with the Otters unsuccessful on five attempts and the Battalion on two.

The Otters play their final game before the Christmas break Saturday night, which is Guns and Hoses Night when the Otters host the Sudbury Wolves. Before the Otters game at 7:00 p.m. is a charity hockey match between local police, fire and EMS units starting at 4:00 p.m. Mention Guns and Hoses Night and receive a $10 ticket good for both games, which proceeds going back to the Children's Advocacy Center. Tickets are available for both home games through Ticketmaster, the Civic Center Box Office or by calling 814-452-4857.
