Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, ON - Oshawa Generals Head Coach & General Manager Chris DePiero announced today that the team has acquired Defenceman Daniel Maggio from the Guelph Storm in exchange for a 3rd round pick in 2011, 4th round picks in 2011 & 2013 and a 7th round pick in 2015.
The 3rd round pick originally belonged to the Barrie Colts while the rest of the picks are the Generals own selections.
Maggio, a 19-year-old Lasalle, Ontario native is currently in his fourth OHL season and will join his third team. He spent three seasons with the Sudbury Wolves before being acquired by the Guelph Storm prior to the start of this season.
"Daniel is a tough, throwback defenceman," said Generals Head Coach & General Manager Chris DePiero. "He is a big kid who brings a lot of experience with him and is very tough to play against."
Selected by the New York Rangers in the 6th round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Maggio had 5 points along with 20 penalty minutes in 12 games for the Storm this season.
Originally selected in the 1st round, 7th overall by the Sudbury Wolves in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection, he has registered 16 goals, 56 assists for 72 points in 186 career OHL games. Known primarily for his tough, physical defence, Maggio has 297 career penalty minutes.
"We were comfortable making this move because of the number of draft picks we have stockpiled," added DePiero. "We still have lots to work with and we like where we are at."
The Generals still have first and second round selections, along with two third round selections and with a fourth round selection in next May's OHL Priority Selection.
Maggio is currently out with an injury and is not expected to be in the Generals lineup until after the Holiday break.
