St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets bats stayed red hot.
One game after putting up 15 runs and 16 hits at Fort Myers, the Mets pounded out 18 more hits and clobbered the Jupiter Hammerheads 14-6 on Monday at Tradition Field.
Eight players had multi-hit games, eight players scored a run and eight players drove in a run. Amed Rosario went 3 for 4 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBI. Michael Katz was 3 for 4 with a double and a RBI.
The Mets trailed 5-0 in the fourth inning but would score the game's next eight runs and 14 of the final 15 runs. Tomas Nido hit a two-out, three-run homer in the fourth that tied the game 5-5.
Amed Rosario broke the tie in the fifth by tripling home Champ Stuart. Rosario scored on a sac fly to make it 7-5.
Alberto Baldonado retired the dangerous Brian Anderson with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth to preserve a 9-6 lead. The Mets went on to score five runs in the bottom of the inning, starting with Jhoan Urena's leadoff home run.
Wuilmer Becerra waited until the seventh inning, but he extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single. He also drove in a run with a base hit in the eighth.
John Mora was the loan Met to go hitless, but he drove in two runs. Stuart, the leadoff hitter, was the only player not to collect a RBI, but he had two hits and scored twice. Katz, despite his three hits, was not lucky enough to drive in a run.
The Mets have now scored 29 runs on 34 hits in the last two games.
Chris Flexen overcame a rocky start to pitch six innings and earn his second win.
Next Up: The Mets (17-13) and Hammerheads (14-16) have a quick turnaround. They play on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. as part of Education Day at Tradition Field.
