Bats Silent in Series Opener

The SeaWolves could not get the bats going in the series opener on Monday night at Canal Park as they fell 11-1.

Akron struck for a pair in the bottom of the second inning off of Erie starter Patrick Cooper. Nick Weglarz walked and Juan Diaz singled putting two on base. Adam Abraham singled home Weglarz for a 1-0 lead and Diaz scored on a Jordan Henry groundout for a 2-0 edge.

In the third, Akron extended its lead on a two-out, two-run Abraham home run making it 4-0.

The Aeros extended their lead once again in the fifth. Diaz led off with a single and Henry doubled putting two in scoring position. Roberto Perez singled home a pair for a 6-0 Akron advantage.

Erie's lone run would come in the top of the sixth inning against Akron starter Steven Wright. Avisail Garcia doubled down the right field line with one out and scored on a Tony Plagman double making it 6-1. The 'Wolves would get no closer.

In the bottom of the seventh, Akron put the game out of reach against reliever Michael Morrison. Ryan Rohlinger led off with a solo home run to left making it 7-1. Akron loaded the bases on a Perez single, Davis Stoneburner walk and Matt Lawson single. Neal hammered a grand slam to straight away center making it 11-1.

Cooper (2-5) took the loss allowing six runs on 11 hits with three walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work.

The SeaWolves and Aeros meet in the middle game of the series on Tuesday night at Canal Park.7:05 First Pitch.
