Eastern League Announces Weekly Award Winners

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of July 16th through July 22nd:

Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of July 16th-July 22nd. The 6'3", 190 lb. slugger batted .417 (10-for-24) with two doubles, one triple, four home runs, eight RBI, 10 runs scored, seven stolen bases, five walks and a 1.083 slugging percentage in six games last week. Hazelbaker, who is a native of Selma, Indiana, had at least one hit in all six games he played in last week and drove in or scored at least one run in five of those games, including going 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, four runs scored, one walk and one stolen base while leading the Sea Dogs to a 12-0 win over Reading on Wednesday afternoon at Portland. The 23-year old led all Eastern League players in home runs (4), runs scored (10), steals (7), slugging percentage (1.083) and OPS (1.583) last week. He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in extra-base hits (7-tied 1st), total bases (26-tied 1st), RBI (8-3rd), triples (1-tied 3rd), on-base percentage (.500-tied 4th), batting average (.417-5th), hits (10-tied 5th) and walks (5-tied 5th). Jeremy was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2009 draft after hitting .429 with 77 runs scored and 29 stolen bases during his junior season at Ball State University.

Austin Hyatt, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Reading Phillies, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 16th-July 22nd. The 26-year old started two games for the R-Phils last week and had a record of 2-0 with 13 strikeouts and a 0.66 ERA. Hyatt, who is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, made his first appearance of the week on Monday at Portland and gave up just two hits while striking out eight batters and walking three over seven shutout innings of work in Reading's 11-4 victory. Hyatt also earned the win in his second start of the week on Saturday at Trenton, surrendering one run on seven hits while striking out five batters over 6.2 innings of work in the R-Phils 7-1 victory. The 6'3", 205 lb. led all Eastern League pitchers with 13 strikeouts last week and also tied for the league lead in wins (2) and innings pitched (13.2), ranked sixth in ERA (0.66) and 10th in batting average against (.184). Austin, who has a 4-3 record with 46 strikeouts and a 4.64 ERA in 10 starts with the R-Phils this season, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 15th round of the 2009 draft after putting together a record of 8-3 with 88 strikeouts and a 3.76 ERA over 103 innings of work in 15 starts as a fifth-year senior at the University of Alabama.
