Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY-Infielder Aaron Herr hit a tenth inning single through the left side, scoring leadoff hitter Jeff Keppinger, and the Louisville Bats took the first game of a weekend homestand over the Buffalo Bisons 5-4 on Thursday night in front of 11,271 fans at Louisville Slugger Field.
Herr and Joey Votto hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning for the Bats (24-22), while Dewayne Wise capped his 1-for-3 evening with a two-run home run of his own in the fifth, bringing home Keppinger from first base. Keppinger went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a walk.
Buffalo threatened early with two outs in the second inning when Brad Snyder sent a drive towards Dewayne Wise, who fielded the ball and threw out a charging Keith Ginter at the plate. The Bisons (26-17) started the scoring an inning later with a Ben Francisco RBI double to center.
A two-run home run by Bison second baseman Luis Rivas tied the game at four in the seventh inning, an inning after the Bisons managed to score a run when Keith Ginter singled to center, scoring Shin-Soo Choo. That rally was cut short as first baseman Ryan Mulhern grounded into a double play to relinquish the opportunity.
Bats starter Bobby Livingston gave up two earned runs in 6.2 innings while striking out six and walking a pair of Bisons in the no decision. Jason Kershner (4-3) picked up the win in two innings of relief and walking one.
Late addition Jeff Harris took the mound for Buffalo in place of starter Adam Miller. Harris pitched 6.0 innings, giving up four earned runs, while striking out five. Reliever Juan Lara (1-2) received the loss after walking three and giving up the final hit.
Game two of the four-game tilt is set for Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Probable starters include LHP Mike Gosling (2-2, 3.18 ERA) for Louisville and LHP Rafael Perez (3-2, 3.19) for Buffalo. Fans are invited to stick around for a fireworks show following the game.
