Tides Extend Braves Losing Streak

RICHMOND, VA - The Norfolk Tides beat the Richmond Braves 7-5 Thursday at The Diamond. The Tides rallied from two deficits and snapped a tie with two runs in the eighth to take the first game of a four game home and home series. The Braves suffered their fifth straight loss.

Richmond took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Graham Koonce. Bill McCarthy smacked a home run in the second to give the Braves a 2-0 advantage. The Tides bounced back with three runs in the third. Tyke Redman knocked in two with a double. He scored on a Mike Cervenak ground out to put the Tides in front 3-2. The Braves re-gained the lead in the fourth on a two run single by Gregor Blanco. The Tides grabbed a 5-4 lead in the sixth on a run-scoring wild pitch and an RBI double by Alberto Castillo. Wes Timmons knocked in a run with a single in the home half to tie the game at five. The Tides scored the winning runs in the eighth on a two-run single by Brandon Fahey.

Andy Mitchell picked up the win. Cory Doyne earned a save. Will Startup took the loss. Timmons, J.C. Holt, Doug Clark, and T.J. Bohn had two hits each for the Braves. Fahey, Castillo, Jason Dubois, and Eider Torres had two hits each for the Tides.

The Braves and Tides square off again at The Diamond Friday at 7 PM. Ryan Basner will pitch for the Braves against Garrett Olson.
