Green Bay Rockers News Release
La Crosse, WI - Loggers' starter Brando Tessar cooled off the Bullfrogs hot bats on Saturday night in La Crosse as Green Bay fell 4-2. The loss drops them a half game back of first place and to 10-7 on the year at the mid way point of the first half.
A night after pounding out 15 hits and 15 runs in Madison, the Bullfrogs mustered just four singles in game one of a two-game set with the Loggers. Tessar was masterful with a low 90s fastball as he gave up one unearned run in his seven innings of work to earn his second win of the year. Green Bay had just two scoring opportunities and capitalized on them both.
The 'Frogs tied the game in the third inning on a gift run. With a runner on second and two outs, the Loggers' center fielder dropped a fly ball that he was camped under to allow the run to score. In the fourth Phillip Ervin reached on an infield single with one out. During Jacob May's at bat he stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. May then drove him in to give Green Bay a 2-1 lead with an RBI groundout.
The Loggers came from behind with a two-run fifth inning to take the lead for good. 'Frogs starter Tim Giel gave up three straight base hits, including an RBI single from Trentt Copeland to tie the game. Adam Cimber made his Bullfrogs debut out of the bullpen with runners at the corners and no outs in the fifth. He induced a ground ball to first baseman Nik Balog who looked the runner back to third and then started a double play to keep the game tied. However, the next hitter Thomas McCarthy drove a single back up the middle for a two-out RBI single to give the Loggers a 3-2 lead. La Crosse would add an unearned insurance run in the sixth on a throwing error by Balog.
It was the first time in four games that Green Bay has not hit a home run. Tim Giel took the loss to fall to 2-1 after throwing four innings allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with four strike outs. Cimber tossed two innings in his debut allowing one unearned run while Andy Hunter and Cameron Dullnig did not allow a run in their single innings. Green Bay made three errors, their most in three games as the Loggers snapped the 'Frogs season-long three game winning streak. Field Manager Jordan Bischel was ejected for the second time this year in the middle of the second inning for arguing an inning ending double play.
Green Bay continues their longest road trip of the year on Sunday with a 5:05 pm start in La Crosse to close a two-game set against the Loggers.
