Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release

The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers struggled with fielding errors and walks on Saturday night, falling to the Mankato MoonDogs 7-2 at Stewart C. Mills Field.

With the MoonDogs leading 3-2, Tyler Harris came in for the Lunkers in relief. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Harris would give up three straight walks. A passed ball with Shaun Cooper at the plate allowed Brennan Moore to score. After Cooper walked, a Blair Moore single brought home Matt Reida. With runners at the corners, a Chris Ross double brought home both runners to give the MoonDogs a 7-2 lead. Kye Winter got the start for the Lunkers and pitched well, throwing 94 pitches through five innings. Winter would give up 2 hits, one run and strike out six.

Kyle Richter was equally as solid on the mound for Mankato, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up only one run and striking out four.

The game was tied up at 1 until the sixth inning, when a couple of errors allowed two MoonDogs to get on base. A hit batter with the bases loaded and a fielder's choice would bring in both of the unearned runs.

Matt Florer, who pitched that sixth inning for the Lunkers, would take the loss as he falls to (0-3).

Nick Goody came in during the 8th inning to pitch for Mankato and finished the game to record his fourth save. He struck out three Lunkers in 1.1 innings.

The Lunkers and MoonDogs are back in action Sunday afternoon at 1:05 at Mills Field in the finale of the two-game series. Joe Willman will pitch for the Lunkers against Logan Taylor for the MoonDogs.
