Louisville Bats News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - The Louisville Bats (13-25) dropped game one of their first doubleheader of the season by a 3-1 score to the Norfolk Tides (21-18) Sunday afternoon. The Bats and Tides will play the rubber match of a three-game series later today.

The scheduled seven-inning ballgame featured solid starting pitching on both ends, with Bats right-hander Jose Lopez (0-5, 5.31) going 5.0 innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on four hits, walking none and striking out a season-high eight on 93 pitches, 59 strikes. Lopez was stuck with the tough-luck loss, with Louisville falling to 0-8 in his eight starts this season.

Tides right-hander, former Bat Asher Wojciechowski (2-1, 3.94) went 6.0 innings, giving up one earned run on three hits including one home run, walking one and striking out seven.

Brandon Dixon went 1-for-3 with his fourth home run of the season, providing the lone run of the game for Louisville with his solo bomb in the top of the fourth to tie the game up, 1-1. For Dixon, the four home runs ties Steve Selsky for most on the club this season.

Norfolk quickly regained the lead, 2-1, on a Drew Dosch home run in the bottom of the fourth, and padded its lead in the bottom of the sixth with an insurance run to make it 3-1, the game's final score.

The Bats and Tides will play game two of the doubleheader later today with left-hander Justin Nicolino (1-2, 3.69) set to start for Louisville in another scheduled seven-inning game. Left-hander John Means will make his Triple-A debut for the Tides in the second game of the twin bill.
