West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK - West Michigan broke out of its offensive slump with five runs in the first three innings en route to a 6-3 victory over Southwest Michigan.

Matt Parrish hit the first Whitecaps home run since April 19 when his line drive cleared the right field wall in the first inning. The two-run shot gave West Michigan a 3-0 lead in the first. Perhaps the most impressive play was a triple steal by the Whitecaps in the third. Nick McIntyre stole home and pushed the lead to 5-0. Jeff Frazier took third and Matt Parrish went to second on the same play. It was McIntyre's first stolen base of the season. Randor Bierd made the second-longest appearance of the season by a Whitecaps starter to earn his second win. He allowed three runs on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts over 7.1 innings.

Frazier knocked an RBI double to centerfield for the Whitecaps first run in the first. In the second, Andrew Graham singled through a drawn-in infield to score Brent Dlugach from third. Brooks Colvin scored on a wild pitch in the seventh.

Francisco Leandro went 3-for-4 for the Devil Rays with three doubles and all three Southwest Michigan RBI. He knocked home one run in the sixth and a pair in the eighth.

Collin Mahoney pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his fifth save.

The Whitecaps had been shut out in three of the last five games before Friday.
