
Hawks repay Rattlers

SOUTH BEND, IN -- One night after the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated South Bend 12-6, the Silver Hawks beat the Rattlers at Coveleski Regional Stadium 11-2. AJ Shappi allowed five hits aand two runs in seven innings to run his record to 3-0 on the season. Carlos Gonzalez homered, scored two runs, and drove in a pair to pace the South Bend offense.
Josh Womack extended his hitting streak to seventeen games and put Wisconsin (14-7) in front 1-0 with a first inning homer.
Gonzalez drilled a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to give the Silver Hawks a 2-1 lead.
South Bend (11-10) added three more runs in the bottom of the second. Alberto Gonzalez singled to knock in a run and a throwing error on the play allowed a second run to score. Gonzalez scored on a sacrifice fly by Emiliano Bonafacio.
The Hawks knocked Rattler starter Mark Lowe out of the game with a four run third inning. Mark Reynolds started the scoring with an RBI double. Later in the inning, Orlando Mercado, Alberto Gonzalez, and Bonafacio drove in runs with singles to make the score 9-1.
The Rattlers didn't get to Shappi again until there were two out in the top of the seventh. Mike Wilson singled and Marshall Hubbard tripled him in to plate the second Wisconsin run of the game.
South Bend tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to account for the final score.
Game three of the series is Saturday night. Wisconsin pitcher Aaron Jensen (1-1, 3.50ERA) will start for the Rattlers. South Bend sends Ross Ohlendorf (0-2, 3.86ERA) to the mound. Game time is 6:30pm.
