South Bend, IN â Thursday night, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored seven runs in their first three at-bats on their way to a 12-6 win over the Hawks. Friday night, the Hawks did the Rattlers two better, scoring nine runs in their first three plate appearances in a 11-2 win.
The Hawks were down a run after the top of the first inning. Josh Womack belted his first home run of the season over the right field wall giving the Rattlers an early 1-0 lead.
The Silver Hawks responded in the home half of the first. With two out, Augustin Murillo, who had his ten game hit streak halted Thursday, singled to left and scored on a Carlos Gonzalez two run home run to right field, giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead after one inning.
The Hawks scored three more times in the second, using a walk, two base hits, a Timber Rattlers throwing error and a sacrifice fly to push to a 4-1 lead. Emilio Bonifacio collected the Hawks RBI in the second with his scoring fly ball to center field.
The Hawks continued to score in the third inning. Augustin Murillo with a base hit, with Carlos Gonzalez pushing Murillo ninety feet with a single as well. After Allen Mottram struck out, Mark Reynolds doubled to score Murillo and move Carlos Gonzalez to third. After Orlando Mercado plated Carlos Gonzalez with a run scoring base hit, Alberto Gonzalez came to the plate with two out bringing home Reynolds, with Bonifacio closing out the scoring in the inning with a base hit to get Mercado home, giving the Hawks a 9-1 lead.
The Silver Hawks and the Timber Rattlers play the third of their four game series Saturday night, with Ross Ohlendorf (0-2) throwing for the Hawks and Aaron Jensen (1-1) pitching for Wisconsin. Game time is slated for 6:30 PM, with the gates opening at 5:30 PM. Saturday's are Meijer Family Fun Saturday with Sunny 101.5.
