Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers brought out heavy lumber on Monday evening, pulling away in the late innings in a 13-6 victory over the Somerset Patriots at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

That win, combined with a Sugar Land loss at Long Island, restored a three-game Freedom Division lead for the Barnstormers.

Nate Coronado, Blake Gailen and Trayvon Robinson each had huge offensive performances in the Barnstormers win.

The first 11 runs of the game scored on homers. Aaron Dudley connected for the Patriots in the second off Nate Reed (6-1) to stake Somerset to a 1-0 lead.

Robinson and Coronado responded with solo blasts in the bottom of the fourth, putting Lancaster ahead. However, in the top of the next inning, following a walk and two infield singles, 40-year old big league veteran Endy Chavez launched a grand slam to right center, jolting Somerset back ahead, 5-2.

Gailen brought the Barnstormers back to within two with a solo blast in the fifth. In the next inning, Grant Desme greeted reliever Vince Molesky (1-1) with a double to left center, and Robinson walked. Vladimir Frias struck out for the first out of the inning before Coronado went to the opposite field for the second time in the game giving the Barnstormers a 6-5 lead they never lost. Gailen later drove home an unearned insurance run as Lancaster went up by a pair.

Somerset came back with a bloop single by Chavez and RBI double to right center by Yovan Gonzalez in the top of the seventh. Jared Lakind took over and got two quick outs.

The Barnstormers salted the game away in the seventh. Three singles loaded the bases. With two outs, Dustin Molleken was charged with a balk, sending K.C. Hobson home with Lancaster's eighth run. Tyler Bortnick walked on the next pitch to reload the bases. Darian Sandford followed with a 13-pitch walk to force in another run, and Gailen capped the inning with a two-run single up the middle for an 11-6 lead.

Lancaster's final runs came on a two-run single by Bortnick in the bottom of the eighth.

Gailen and Robinson finished the night with four hits apiece while Coronado had the club's second multi-homer game of the season.

The two clubs meet again on Tuesday evening. Steve Johnson (3-1) takes the hill for Lancaster against lefty Duane Below (2-2). Fans may tune into BRC 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00.
