Indianapolis Indians News Release
Matt Belisle (8-9) of the Louisville Bats silenced the Tribe's offense Friday night, leading Louisville to an 8-0 victory. In the eight innings that Belisle worked, the Indians recorded only two hits and a runner reached third base only one time.
In addition to his outstanding pitching performance, Belisle hit a home run in the bottom of the third inning which turned out to be the game-winning RBI. The Bats' offense also helped their pitcher by adding six runs in the fifth inning.
Adrian Hernandez (0-7) was pinned with the loss for Indianapolis. He went seven innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits, walking three, striking out two and hitting two opposing batters.
The loss moves the Indians record to 51-69, while the Bats improve to 57-64.
Quotes:
Matt Belisle, Louisville starting pitcher "I think I had good late life in the zone tonight," said Belisle. "I was getting the outside corder versus lefties. I had balls hit hard, but they were just right at guys." "This was my first home run in a professional game. It was as big of a surprise to me as it was to everyone else. I just ran into it, it was crazy. What was real big were the five run in the bottom of the fifth." "This was a very solid game and the win just tops it off."
Notes: Adrian Hernandez has not won a game since August 23, 2003. Jeff Liefer had a nine-game hitting streak snapped Friday night. The Tribe plays Louisville tomorrow night at 5:15 p.m. before returning home on Sunday to play the Norfolk Tides in a doubleheader.
