Bats Awaken as 'Dogs Drub T-Bones

LINCOLN - The Saltdogs (19-20) slugged their way to a 9-2 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (16-24) in front of 3,273 fans at Haymarket Park Thursday night.

Curt Smith started the party by swatting a two-run homer to right center in the first, his eighth of the year.

Lincoln added another in the third and two in the fifth to build a comfortable lead for starter Shairon Martis.

Martis (5-4) pitched seven innings of one-run ball, striking out two to earn the win.

Luis Alen led off the seventh with a solo homer, his second.

Smith finished the night 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.

Brandon Jacobs went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI as part of a 13-hit performance for the 'Dogs.

The victory snaps a season-high six-game losing streak.

Rene Leveret went 1-for-1 with three walks, and the league's on-base percentage leader has now reached safely in 21 consecutive home games.

The Saltdogs open a three-game home series with Fargo-Moorhead Friday night at 6:35 p.m. LHP Jeff McKenzie is expected to face RHP Taylor Stanton.
