Birmingham Barons News Release

The Birmingham Barons snapped a five-game road losing skid with a 3-1 win over the Mobile BayBears Sunday in front of fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The Barons would score all three of their runs in the second inning, getting a two-out two-run single by Dan Wagner and an RBI base hit by Keenyn Walker against Mobile starter David Holmberg (5-7, 2.76).

Holmberg and the BayBears would allow just one hit the rest of the way but Chris Bassitt (3-2, 2.35) and the bullpen made the runs stand up the rest of the way. Bassitt scattered six hits and allowed just one run on an RBI single by Nick Ahmed in the fifth inning while striking out five. He exited in the seventh with two out and two on but David Cales was able to retire former Baron Justin Greene on a fly out to right to end the inning and preserve the 3-1 lead.

In the eighth, the BayBears again put two runners on with two outs but the Barons were able to escape when Walker made a diving catch to end the inning on a line drive by Mike Freeman.

Kevin Vance recorded the final four outs of the game while picking up his 6th save as the Barons improved to 70-49 and 26-23 in the second half while Mobiel fell to 64-52 and 25-22 in the second half.

The Barons will look to finish off their season-series with the BayBears on a winning note tomorrow night as LHP Scott Snodgress (11-7, 3.67) takes the hill against RHP Bo Schultz (4-2, 2.68). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
