Jackson Generals News Release

PEARL, Miss. (August 11, 2013) - Jackson faltered in the finale of the 10-day road trip against Mississippi as the Braves (26-24) held the Generals (22-25) to just two hits in the 4-0 loss. The Braves got a terrific start from Ian Thomas (W, 6-5, 2.62) who struck out a season-high nine batters in the game. Christian Bethencourt recorded a two-homer game for the M-Braves and finished 4-for-4. Jackson dropped the series to Mississippi 4-3 and finished the season-long road trip with a 4-6 record.

The Generals turned to Anthony Vasquez (L, 1-2, 3.38) in the series finale. Vasquez went the distance, only giving up six hits, but half of the hits left the yard. The left-hander surrendered a season-high three home runs, two of them to the hottest hitter in the Braves lineup, Christian Bethancourt. Three of the four runs Vasquez allowed were earned as he walked one and struck out five.

Vasquez's counterpart, Ian Thomas, was at his best on Sunday night. Thomas gave up only two hits in seven innings of work. His nine strikeouts were accompanied with not a single walk.

The Generals left only three runners on base and were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Gabriel Noriega (1-3, K) and Julio Morban (1-3, K) provided the best opportunity for the visitors in the fourth as they started the inning with back-to-back singles. They were left stranded where they stood, as Thomas was able to get the next three hitters in order. Jackson was shut out for the 10th time this season. It was only their third series loss in their last eight.

Monday is an off day for the Generals as they will get back to action against the Montogomery Biscuits on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. (CT) at The Ballpark in Jackson. The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN Radio, TuneIn Radio App. and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
