August 11, 2013 - Southern League (SL1)
Birmingham Barons News Release
The Mobile BayBears flexed their offensive muscles Saturday night, blowing out the Birmingham Barons by a score of 14-1 in front of 2,662 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The Barons briefly held a 1-0 lead in the game, scoring a run on an RBI groundout by Cody Puckett in the second inning. However, the game would take an ugly turn from there, as Mobile would score 14 unanswered runs to take a 14-1 lead.
Barons' starter Spencer Arroyo (8-5, 3.20) allowed five runs (two earned) on five hits over 4.0 IP including a two-run double by Garrett Weber as part of a four-run fourth inning.
His replacement, Michael Nix, wouldn't fair much better, allowing five runs on three hits over 1.2 IP. Nick Evans continued to hit well against Birmingham, getting an RBI double in the fifth and a run scoring single in the 6th.
The BayBears would tack on four more runs in the seventh against Jarrett Casey highlighted by a two-run single by former Baron Justin Greene. Greene would finish with four runs scored on the night.
Dan Black registered the lone multi-hit game for the Barons on the night, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the eighth. In three games against Mobile in the series, the Barons have scored five runs and committed seven errors.
Every player in the BayBears lineup had at least one hit while the three-four-five hitters in the lineup (Evans, Ryan Court and Webber) finished with three hits apiece and went a combined 9-for-15 on the evening.
With the loss, the Barons dropped to 69-49 and 25-23 in the second half while Mobile improved to 64-51 and 25-21 in the second half.
The Barons try to avoid their fourth-straight loss to the BayBears and fifth road loss in a row tomorrow as RHP Chris Bassitt (2-2, 3.00) takes the hill against LHP David Holmberg (5-6, 2.79). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM CDT.
