Bashlor Named Indians May Player of the Month

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians today announced relief pitcher Tyler Bashlor as their May Player of the Month after he went the entire month (8g, 9.0ip) without allowing an earned run.

The right-hander was Indy's most consistent arm out of the bullpen during the first month of the season,

holding opposing batters to a .069 (2-for-29) batting average. He paired that dominance with a 0.78 WHIP with five walks compared to 12 strikeouts.

Bashlor took his only loss so far this season in his second outing on May 7 at Iowa, when the automatic runner at second base in the 10th inning came around to score. In his final outing of the month on May 29 at Omaha, he fanned a season-high four batters in two innings.

The 28-year-old was outrighted to Indianapolis on April 10 after being traded to Pittsburgh from New York (NL) on Aug. 2, 2020. In eight appearances with the Pirates last season, he went 0-0 with an 8.64 ERA (8er/8.1ip). Bashlor was originally selected by the Mets in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and made his major league debut on June 25, 2018 vs. Pittsburgh.
