Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - For the second consecutive night, the Charlotte Knights shut out the top team in Triple-A this season.
RHP Jonathan Stiever tossed six shutout innings and outfielder Luis González launched a key two-run home run to lead the Knights to a 4-0 win over the Nashville Sounds on Saturday night from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The Knights welcomed 6,916 fans through the gates for their largest crowd of the season.
Stiever (2-1, 4.29) gave up just three hits over six marvelous innings en route to his second win of the season. Stiever was effective as he threw 89 pitches on the night and struck-out four batters. RHP Alex McRae, LHP Jace Fry and RHP Zack Burdi combined to hold the Sounds scoreless over the final three innings of the game.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a solo home run from shortstop Tim Beckham. The blast was his second of the season. One inning later, third baseman Jake Burger recorded an RBI single to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.
The game stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth inning when González launched his two-run home run to give the Knights some insurance runs. The homer was his third of the season and put the Knights up 4-0. That was all they needed to go on for their second shutout in as many days.
The two teams will conclude their six-game series on Sunday with a 2:05 p.m. game from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. The game will also be broadcast live on MY 12 WMYT. Gates open at 1:00 p.m. for Sunday's series finale.
