
Pigs rule the yard on Saturday afternoon

(Moosic, PA) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (16-13) registered 13 hits and scored nine runs in a 9-6 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (18-9) on Saturday afternoon. Ryan Cordell and Scott Kingery each had three hits and combined for five runs scored and three RBI (Cordell).
The Pigs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning against Brody Koerner (1-2). Cordell scored on an RBI groundout by Ruben Tejada and Austin Listi hit an RBI single. Listi extended his hitting streak to seven games. Andrew Velazquez got the RailRiders on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning when hit an RBI single against David Parkinson.
Lehigh Valley broke the game open in the top of the third inning when they scored four runs against Koerner to take a 6-1 lead. Cordell hit a two-run double and Rafael Marchan hit an RBI single. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre answered back against Parkinson in the bottom of the third inning when Hoy Jun Park hit a three-run home run to cut the lead to 6-4.
Parkinson left the game after four innings. Bryan Mitchell (3-0) entered the game and pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Mickey Moniak hit an RBI single against Koerner in the top of the fourth inning to give the Pigs a 7-4 lead.
Two more runs came across home for the Pigs in the top of the seventh inning against Adam Warren. Moniak hit a sacrifice fly and Cordell hit his sixth home run of the season. Trey Amburgey hit a two-run single against Brady Lail in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the Pigs lead to 9-6.
J.D. Hammer pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Lail. David Paulino earned his first save of the season by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Lehigh Valley and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre wrap up their series at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
