Barry Almeida Named ECHL Player of the Week

West Valley City, Utah - Barry Almeida of the Utah Grizzlies is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for October 16-18.

It marks the third time in the last four years that a Grizzlies forward has been named the league's Player of the Week after week one of action.

Almeida scored five goals and was a +5 in two games last week as Utah swept an opening weekend series at Colorado.

The 26-year-old had one goal in a 4-3 overtime win on?Friday then scored four times, including the game-winning goal, in a 5-2 victory on?Saturday.

A native of Ludlow, Massachusetts, Almeida leads the ECHL in goals, is tied for the league lead in points and is tied for second in plus-minus. He also leads the ECHL in shots with 17.

Almeida has 95 points (43g-52a) in 131 career ECHL games with Utah, Reading and Cincinnati. He captured a Kelly Cup title with the Royals in 2013. He has added 15 points (7g-8a) in 36 career games with Hershey of the American Hockey League.

Prior to turning pro, Almeida recorded 92 points (45g-47a) in 159 career games at Boston?College and was part of the Eagles' National Championship teams in 2010 and 2012. He was also an assistant captain for the Eagles.

On behalf of Barry Almeida, a case of pucks will be donated to a Utah youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood?Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 33,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

Home Opening Weekend

The Grizzlies host Not only is it Opening Weekend, but it is also Octoberfest. Fans can get a lower bowl ticket, a brat and a beer or soft drink for only $20 at the arena box office.

Face-Off Luncheon/Media Day

The Grizzlies annual Face-Off Luncheon/Media Day is Thursday at noon. The team will be introduced and Head Coach Tim Branham will address the crowd in attendance. The opening videos for Opening Night will also be shown. Cost is $15 for season ticket holders and $30 for the general public. Call (801) 988-8000.
