Montgomery Biscuits News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Craig Dedelow's walk-off RBI-double in the bottom of the 10th lifted the Birmingham Barons (39-43/8-5) to a 5-4 win over the Biscuits (36-39/8-5) in Tuesday night's series opener at Regions Field.

Brian Glowicki opened for the Barons, and the righty allowed a one-out single to Greg Jones, but retired everyone else including Kameron Misner on strikes as the Biscuits shortstop was left stranded on second in a scoreless top of the first.

Taj Bradley (3-1) made his 16th start of the season for the Biscuits, and the right-hander ran into trouble in the bottom of the first, serving up a couple runs on a throwing error by Jones and an RBI-double by Yoelqui Cespedes to make it 2-0 Barons early. Bradley still struck out D.J. Burt to begin the inning and Dedelow to end the inning.

Kaleb Roper came on to work the bulk innings for Glowicki in the top of the second and allowed just a single to Niko Hulsizer and struck out Jordan Qsar in a scoreless top of the second. Bradley surrendered two singles in the bottom of the second, but kept the Barons from scoring and recorded two more strikeouts to raise his total to four.

Roper struck out the side in the top of the third, getting Garrett Hiott, Brett Wisely, and Jones-all swinging-to keep it a 2-0 contest. Bradley countered with a one-two-three inning of his own in the bottom of the third, ringing up Cespedes for this fifth strikeout of the night.

The Biscuits would finally crack Roper in the top of the fourth. Osleivis Basabe banged a single to right to begin the inning, and then Misner followed suit with one of his own into center. Qsar walked and then Hulsizer slugged a bases-clearing three-run double off the wall in right-center to hand the Biscuits their first lead of the game at 3-2. Later in the inning, Roberto Alvarez's RBI-single to right increased that lead to 4-2.

Caleb Sampen relieved Bradley in the top of the fourth, and after allowing a lead-off single to Dedelow and retiring Alex Destino on a groundout, the right-hander served up a two-run homer to right to Evan Skoug that knotted things up at four.

Yoelvin Silven kept the Biscuits from scoring in the top of the fifth, and Sampen did the same to the Barons in the bottom of the fifth, striking out his first batter in Raudy Read in a clean frame. Felix Paulino came on for Silven and worked a one-two-three top of the sixth, striking out Hiott.

Sampen retired the first two batters of the bottom of the sixth, but then allowed the next two reach on a strikeout and a wild pitch and a hit-by-pitch, and then departed the game with an apparent injury after throwing a ball to D.J. Burt. Andrew Gross came on and walked Burt to load the bases, but Basabe made a spectacular diving, run-saving stop on a groundball hit to third by Jose Rodriguez, and threw the shortstop out to keep things tied at four.

Neither team scored in the seventh, eighth, or ninth, and so the game shifted to extra innings. In the top of the 10th, the Biscuits could not bring home the ghost runner Hiott. Zack Trageton came on in the bottom of the 10th, and retired the first abtter Moises Castillo on a flyout. Trageton then walked Cespdes before Dedelow skied one just over the head of Qsar in left field as it one-hopped over the wall for the walk-off double. Following Misner's one-out single in the top of the fifth, the Biscuits did not have a baserunner other than Hiott in the 10th the rest of the game.

The Biscuits will try to get back on track on Wednesday when John Doxakis (0-3) faces Emilio Vargas (1-2) at 7:05 PM CT.

The Biscuits are in the middle of a six-game road trip, but will return to Riverwalk Stadium after the All-Star break for a three-game series against the Mississippi Braves for Gump Weekend beginning on Friday, July 22 at 6:35 PM CT when there will be an Adult Greenbow Biscuits Replica Jersey Giveaway presented by Direct Auto Insurance.

The rest of the series will include Fitness Night & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 23 at 6:05 PM CT, and a Kids Replica Jersey Giveaway presented by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama & Bark in the Park on Sunday, July 24 at 3:33 PM CT.
