Shuster Dominates, M-Braves Crush Trash Pandas 6-0

PEARL, MS - LHP Jared Shuster dominated in seven shutout innings and the Mississippi Braves (38-44, 9-4) crushed the Rocket City Trash Pandas (51-31, 9-4) 6-0 in their first ever meeting at Trustmark Park on Tuesday night.

Shuster gave up just two hits, retiring the first 13 batters in a row. He tied two career highs with seven innings and 12 strikeouts. The left-hander will pitch next in the MLB Futures Game at Dodger Stadium on Saturday in Los Angeles, CA. He posts a 2.87 ERA in 84 2/3 innings over 16 starts.

RHP Indigo Diaz and RHP Justin Maese each added a scoreless inning, capping a two-hit shutout for the M-Braves.

The M-Braves tallied 13 hits in the win, putting a runner on base in every inning.

In his Double-A debut, Vaughn Grissom went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Atlanta promoted Grissom with three of his teammates from High-A Rome, INF Justyn-Henry Malloy, LHP Dylan Dodd and LHP Lisandro Santos, ahead of tonight's game.

Grissom carried a 37-game on-base streak and an 11-game hit streak from High-A Rome, where he slashed .312/.404/.487 with 11 home runs and 55 RBI.

In the first inning, Drew Lugbauer smashed a two-run shot to left center to give the M-Braves a 2-0 lead. The first baseman has 19 homers, which ranks second in the Southern League.

In the third, the M-Braves broke through with three runs. With the bases loaded, Andrew Moritz walked to score a run. Grissom lined a two-run single into center field to make it 5-0. The inning started with a Yariel Gonzalez double.

Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with a double and two walks. The infielder is batting .249 with eight home runs and 29 RBI.

The M-Braves added another run in the seventh. Hendrik Clementina knocked in Gonzalez with a single to make it 6-0.

The second game of the series is on Wednesday at Trustmark Park. LHP Hayden Deal (2-2, 4.22) makes the start for Mississippi against a starter to be named for Rocket City. The first pitch is at 12:05 pm CT, with coverage starting at 11:50 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
