Barons to Host St. Ignatius/St. Edward Hockey Game

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons today announced plans to host an annual St. Edward/St. Ignatius high school hockey game. Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.
On Saturday, January 3rd at Gund Arena, the St. Ignatius Wildcats will play host to the St. Edward Eagles at 3:00pm. Following this game, the Cleveland Barons will battle the St. John's Maple Leafs at 7:00pm. By purchasing a ticket to the Barons game, fans gain admittance to both games. For ticket information, call the Barons front office at 216-420-0000.
"This is a great opportunity for our team as many of these kids will never play on this stage," stated St. Edward coach, Bob Whidden. "The rivalry between St. Edward and St. Ignatius really will make this game extra special for each team."
Scott Pick, head coach of St. Ignatius concurred, " This is a great experience for our teams. A game of this magnitude will become more intense by playing in a professional venue."
This contest will mark the first of a two-year plan to play the St. Ignatius/St. Edward game at Gund Arena. Next season, St. Edward will play host to St. Ignatius.
The Eagles of St. Edward have won seven state championships in their history. Last season, St. Edward advanced to the state final before falling to Gilmour Academy. The Wildcats of St. Ignatius own one state championship of their own as they were victorious in the 1999-2000 season.
"We are very pleased to promote high school hockey as it continues to grow by leaps and bounds in Greater Cleveland," stated Lehr. "From the opening introductions to the intermission entertainment, this game will have all the components of a professional hockey game, giving these student-athletes an experience they will always remember."
